Like a lot of TV genres that are popular today, legal shows were already being produced in TV’s early years, like the classic Perry Mason with Raymond Burr from the late ’50s. And today, one of the most popular franchises is Law & Order. The original mother ship spawned six other U.S. shows, and last year was revived after 12 years off the air. Two of its spinoffs, L&O: Special Victims Unit and L&O: Organized Crime, are still being broadcast with new seasons.
